Y muchos os preguntaréis, ¿qué es una colección Resort o Cruise? Resulta que las grandes maisons de la moda se encontraban que sus clientas más fieles -y de poder adquisitivo más elevado-, solían irse de vacaciones a lugares más cálidos durante los meses de invierno, ya fuesen de crucero por el caribe, a países europeos del sur, o al sud-este asiático, y tenían la necesidad de llevar en su maleta prendas mucho más primaverales de las que tenían en su closet -que pertenecían a sus recientes compras de septiembre para Fall/Winter-. Y cómo áun no habían salido a la venta las colecciones Spring/Summer, marcas como Chanel, Dior y Gucci, se vieron obligadas a inventarse este tipo de colecciones “pre-season” o de entretiempo, que eran una línea de ropa ready-to-wear, distinta a la presentada en Otoño/Invierno y a la que se presentaría pocos meses después para Primavera/Verano. Las demás firmas rápidamente se unieron para no quedarse atrás, y fue en 2006 cuándo la “collection Croisière” dejó de ser solamente femenina: Yves Saint Laurent lanzó su primera colección Cruise para hombres.

Cuentan los diseñadores que estas prendas “warm-weather” son las más difíciles de diseñar, ya que son los básicos que se llevarán más tiempo durante el año, de Noviembre hasta la llegada del buen tiempo (que no siempre es la primavera). Son los pilares del closet, esas prendas que son para esos momentos que no hace ni frío ni calor, el temido entretiempo. Estas prendas están encabezadas por el estilo náutico inspirado en las míticas rayas marineras, seguido de vestidos largos, chaquetas de entretiempo, gabardinas, camisas vaporosas, colores blancos, crudos y camel, toques de azul y amarillo, tímidos estampados de flores y algún que otro color pastel, conjuntados con zapatos ya open-toed o sin calcetines ni medias; y se caracterizan por ser prendas de algodón, denim o seda, fáciles de guardar en la maleta, que pesen poco y que no necesiten plancha. Prendas muy cómodas y casual para viajar, pero a su vez muy trendies para seguir yendo a la última.

And many of you will wonder, what is a Resort or Cruise collection? We wondered too, so we thought this post would help. It turns out that the most loyal -and the most wealthy- customers of the big fashion maisons used to go on holidays to warmer places during the Winter months, were cruising the Caribbean, or visiting south Europe countries, or flying to south-east Asia, and had the need to fit in their suitcase more Spring-like garments than the ones they had in their closet -which belonged to their recent purchases of September for Fall/Winter-. Because the Spring/Summer collections had not yet gone on sale, brands like Chanel, Dior and Gucci, were forced to invent such “pre-season” collections, they were a clothing line ready-to-wear, different from that introduced for Fall/Winter and to be presented a few months later for Spring/Summer. Other firms quickly joined to keep up, and it was in 2006 when the “collection Croisière” ceased to be only female: Yves Saint Laurent launched its first menswear Cruisecollection.

The designers explain that these “warm-weather” clothes are the most difficult to design because they are the basics we will most time wear during the year, from November until the arrival of warm weather (which is not always Spring). They are the pillars of the closet, these garments are for those moments that are neither hot nor cold, the dreaded halftime. Led by the typical nautical style inspired by the legendary sailor stripes, followed by long dresses, Spring jackets, trenchs, sheer shirts, white, raw and camel colors, touches of blue and yellow, timid flower prints and pastel colors, matched with open-toed shoes or shoes with no socks nor tights; and are made of cotton, denim or silk, easy to pack in your suitcase, weighing little and with no need of ironing. Comfortable and casual clothing for traveling, but in turn very trendy to keep fashionable.
