El camaleón del rock, David Bowie, nos ha dejado a los 69 años. Y hoy queremos rendirle homenaje con el vídeo de la semana –gif, más que vídeo-, por ser una de las personalidades de la música más extravagante, controvertida, y fiel a sí misma; sin miedo al qué dirán.

David Robert Jones, su verdadero nombre, ha sido un innovador nato. Un creativo. Un transgresor. Un artista súper versátil con gran capacidad de reinventarse y adaptarse a las tendencias, tanto a nivel musical como a nivel estético. De aquellos artistas que han dejado mella por su forma de ser, tan auténtica. 

El músico y compositor londinense realmente saltó a la fama en 1969 cuando «Space Oddity» fue top 5 de la lista británica. Desde entonces, y gracias a su peculiar voz y a la profundidad de sus canciones, su música, que ha pasado por géneros como el Folk, Hard Rock, Electrónica, Soul, R&B, Dance y Pop, demuestra su constante deseo de innovación y de cambio. De aprender. De arriesgarse. De no tener miedo al cambio.

Bowie vivió una vida intensa tanto como músico vanguardista como fashion trendsetter. Con un look de lo más andrógino, Bowie jugaba con la ambigüedad, con la extravagancia, con los colores, la simetría, con sus outfits y peinados, e iba transformándose siguiendo su intuición, derribando barreras artísticas, estéticas y sexuales.

Personalmente admiro a todas aquellas personas que saben darle la vuelta a un «defecto» físico para convertirlo en su sello personal, su marca. Como en su caso, que debido a una herida y a una enfermedad en su ojo izquierdo, la diferencia de color, de azul a verde grisáceo, y del tamaño de sus pupilas, se convirtieron en su marca personal.

Y tan auténtico era, que de admirar fue también la manera en la que nos dejó. Consciente de que un cáncer se lo estaba llevando, pocos días antes y sin contarle al mundo la cruda realidad de su lucha, nos «regaló» su «testamento musical» en vida. Su canción «Lazarus», sobre el personaje bíblico que regresa de entre los muertos, es una de las infinitas pruebas que se pueden encontrar en su último disco «Blackstar», su despedida para nosotros. RIP, Bowie.

David Robert Jones, his real name, was a born innovator. A creative. A transgressor. A super versatile artist with great capacity to reinvent himself and adapt to trends, both musically and aesthetically. Of those artists who have marked us because of his way of being, so authentic.

Since then, thanks to his distinctive voice and the depth of his songs, his music, which has gone through genres like Folk, Hard Rock, Electronic, Soul, R&B, Dance and Pop, shows his constant desire for innovation and change . Of learning. Of risking. Not being afraid to change.

Bowie lived an intense life as avant-garde musician and fashion trendsetter. With an androgynous look, Bowie he played with the ambiguity, the extravagance, the colors, symmetry, with his outfits and hairstyles, and transformed following his intuition, knocking artistic, aesthetic and sexual barriers.

Personally I admire all those who know how to turn around a physic «defect» to make it a personal trademark. As he did due to an injury and illness in his left eye, using the difference in color, from blue to grey-green, and the size of his pupils, became his trademark.

And so authentic he was, that we also admire the way he left us. Aware that a cancer was taking him, a few days before and without telling the world the harsh reality of his struggle, he «gave us» his «musical testament» in life. His song «Lazarus», about the biblical character who returns from the dead, is one of the endless proofs that can be found on his latest album «Blackstar», his farewell to us. RIP, Bowie.
