Otaduy nace en una azotea de Nueva York, una tarde de verano entre amigos, música, luz y fotografías. Una idea que se fue definiendo poco a poco hasta tomar forma en el 2011 en Barcelona. Esta firma de trajes de novia se inspira en momentos como este, en esas instantáneas que se quedan. En su atelier de Barcelona (C/Torrent de l’olla, 45) confeccionan artesanalmente cada traje de novia. Para ellos esta confección es un pequeño-gran ritual: dibujar, hacer un patrón, medir, rasgar el tejido, coser. Todo, para llegar al vestido, su particular (y abierta) definición de amor.

Nos ha gustado tanto su manifiesto a favor de «la novia auténtica que es ella misma» que nos encantaría que lo leyerais:

«No es otra historia de amor. Es tu historia de amor. Imperfecta, especial, diferente a como la habías imaginado y, en realidad, mucho mejor. Y ahí estás tú. Es el gran día y ha venido todo el mundo. La gente a la que quieres. La gente que os quiere. Y, por supuesto, tan nervioso como tú, ese él o ese ella que ha hecho que todo este lío valiese la pena. Y quieres que te vea y piense exactamente eso. Que valía la pena. Pero sobre todo quieres que te vea. A ti. No a una fría maniquí, ni a una chica encerrada en un vestido pomposo, ni a la mujer que tu madre o tu padre esperan que seas. Sólo a ti. En tu versión princesa prometida, delicada y ligera. O tal vez como la fiera de mi niña, desafiante, elegante y traviesa… Porque sí, puedes ir como quieras. De blanco y con tus botas de cuero, con trenzas y una corona de flores en el pelo, con un vestido de satén o de encaje, con la espalda descubierta, o las uñas pintadas de negro. Es tu día. Y las reglas las pones tú. O mejor, vosotros. Porque esta es una historia de dos. Una historia que empezó con vuestro primer ‘te quiero’ y que ahora continúa con ese ‘Sí, quiero’ que, como la mayoría de las cosas buenas, da un poco de miedo. Pero sabes que, también como casi siempre, merece la pena el riesgo.»

Otaduy was born on a top-floor apartment on NYC one summer night with friends, music and photographs. The idea evolved until it finally took form in 2011 in Barcelona. Their firm takes its inspiration from moments like these -snapshots that remain-. In their atelier in Barcelona (C/Torrent de l’olla, 45) they make each piece entirely by hand. For them, it’s a subtle, continuous ritual: drawing, laying the pattern, measuring, tearing the fabric, sewing. All to get to the dress, their particular, (and open), definition of love.

We liked their manifesto on behalf of «the authentic bride that is herself» so much that we would love if you read it:

«It’s not another love story. It is your love story -imperfect, special, different from what you had imagined and, in fact, far better than what you thought. And there you are. Today is the big day and everybody is there. People you love. People who love you. And, of course, as nervous as you are, that he or she who has made it all worthwhile. You want him or her to look at you and think exactly that -that it was all worthwhile. But, what’s more important, you want him to look at you. You. Not a cold dummy, not a girl locked into a pompous wedding dress, or the woman that your parents expect you to be. Just you. In your own version of the princess bride; light and delicate. Or maybe like the wild child you are; rebellious, elegant, mischievous… Yes, you can wear whatever you want -dressed in white and wearing leather boots, or wearing braids and a flower crown. You can wear satin or a lace dress, an open back dress or paint your nails black. It is your day. You set the rules. Or even better, you both set the rules. Because this is a tale of two people. A story that started with the first ‘I love you’ and now continues with that ‘I do’. Like most good things in life, it’s a bit frightening, but you also know that it’s always worth taking the risk.»
